When Dr. Pittman started looking into putting solar panels on his section of the roof, he had an epiphany – why not put them on the rest of the roof too, connect them to his tenants’ power meters, and save all of them thousands of dollars each year on their energy bills?
In 2010, U.S. Virgin Islands Governor, John deJohn Jr., set a goal for the island to achieve a 60% reduction in fossil fuel consumption by 2025. To help reach a major milestone in the mission, they partnered with Coastal Solar’s Keith Freeman to develop the largest solar panel installation in the Virgin Islands.
In 2014, with the help of Coastal Solar’s Keith Freeman, The Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa in St. Maarten became the largest solar resort in the Caribbean region. Over 2,600 solar panels with a capacity of nearly 800 kilowatts - enough to power over 100 average American homes - provide the resort with 1.2 million kilowatt hours a year.
