Project Description

solar array at an airport in st. thomas

Cyril E. King Airport

In 2010, U.S. Virgin Islands Governor, John deJohn Jr., set a goal for the island to achieve a 60% reduction in fossil fuel consumption by 2025. To help reach a major milestone in the mission, they partnered with Coastal Solar’s Keith Freeman to develop the largest solar panel installation in the Virgin Islands.

The array, located at the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, provides enough power to reduce the airports utility bill by $35,000 each month. The 451 kilowatt system is 1,500 feet long and produces 600,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
